
About Angie Godwin McEwen
Angie is a partner and a member of Johnston Barton's Business & Tax Practice Group. Her practice emphasizes the representation of owners, developers and financial institutions in various aspects of commercial real estate transactions. She has extensive experience counseling clients in real estate acquisition, disposition and finance, and in assisting financial institutions with real estate, senior housing and other secured lending transactions. Angie has a special interest in sustainable development and "Green" building. She is a LEED Green Associate accredited professional. A significant portion of Angie's practices focuses on working with local conservation organizations in the acquisition of property rights, both through purchase and the grant of conservation easements, in lands necessary for watershed protection. She also assists clients with park development and the preservation of open space for public recreation and education. One of the projects on which Angie served as lead attorney was recognized by the Birmingham Business Journal as one of the top commercial real estate deals of the year for 2008. Angie is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College (B.A., magna cum laude, 1995), where she was an Honors Program Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Mortar Board. She received her law degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Law (J.D., 1999), where she served as Executive Professional Authorities Editor of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law and was the recipient of the Grace Wilson Sims Medal in Transnational Law. Angie is a member of the Alabama State Bar, Birmingham Bar Association and the Business and Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Sections of the American Bar Association. She previously served as the Chair of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Committee of the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association. Angie volunteers her time as an officer of the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Board of Directors of Leadership Vestavia Hills. In 2008, Angie was named by the Birmingham Business Journal as one of Birmingham's Top 40 Under 40. Additionally, she serves as a member of the firm's recruitment committee. In her spare time, Angie enjoys perfecting new culinary creations (especially desserts), traveling, boating and waterskiing.
