Benjamin H. Cooper brings over 20 years of experience working with private and public Fortune 500 companies to his practice of the law. He held executive retail and management positions within the companies, focusing on Corporate Human Resources and Labor and Employment issues, including policy development, training and oversight related to hiring, employment reductions, employment agreements, WARN ACT, organizational reductions in force, and diversity management. He earned his undergraduate degree from Florida State University and Juris Doctor from the Birmingham School of Law. Benjamin H. Cooper is admitted to practice in the State of Alabama, the U.S. Northern District Court of Alabama and the U.S. Middle District Court of Alabama, and the U.S. District Appeals Court, Eleventh Circuit. He has served as a state-wide mentor working to prepare students for the Alabama Bar Examination, and on the Faculty at the Birmingham School of Law as a Professor of Senior Legal Writing. Benjamin H. Cooper is a member of The Alabama State Bar, Birmingham Bar Association, The Alabama State Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program, Birmingham Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program, The American Bar Association Labor and Employment Advisory Committee and Equality Alabama, Workplace Chairman, State of Alabama, Jefferson County Mentoring Committee, and other organizations within the Birmingham, Alabama area and surrounding communities. Benjamin H. Cooper founded the Cooper Law Group LLC and his firm focuses on Labor and Employment litigation, representing the Plaintiff in related issues including the Fair Labor Standards Act, Employment Agreements, Severance Agreements, Non-Compete Agreements, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Wrongful Termination, Discrimination, Workplace Harassment, Retaliation, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Collective Bargaining Agreements (Labor Unions) and State Department appeals and hearing processes to include Unemployment Compensation. Wanting to bring the wealth of knowledge and insight his education and experience has afforded him to a new legal arena, Mr. Cooper has recently announced his candidacy for the position of Executive Director of the ACLU, State of Alabama.
