Gretchen Thomas graduated cum laude from Alabama A & M and Birmingham School of Law, where she received her Juris Doctor. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She was employed in the federal government, and after she was admitted to the Alabama State Bar, she became a part time associate with the Merrell Law Firm, LLC.
