About Cindy Lee Cannon
Ms. Cannon cares about children and the parents who are fighting to raise them. Utilizing an extensive background in courtroom litigation in both state and federal courts, Ms. Cannon provides superior representation at reasonable rates to family court and civil litigants. Issues of public policy that impact families across California are what motivate Ms. Cannon. Ms. Cannon first started practicing in 1989. Ms. Cannon graduated from the University of Maryland, cum laude, and then attended Southwestern School of Law in Los Angeles on an academic scholarship. In 1997, in a case argued by Ms. Cannon to the Ninth Circuit and appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court by the other side, Ms. Cannon made law by placing women in the cabs of snowplows and other heavy equipment in California counties so that single moms could support their families with scarce, high paying jobs. In 1999, Ms. Cannon represented a prisoner from Folsom State Prison who did not get medical attention for a serious injury. He was dying and needed to support his young son. Ms. Cannon obtained what was then the largest medical negligence settlement ever paid to a prisoner by the California Department of Corrections. Since that time Ms. Cannon has advocated not only for families, but also for sick and dying prisoners across the state. Two million families in California have members who are incarcerated. This is not glamorous work - just important work that needs to be done. Recently, Ms. Cannon testified before the California Legislature in support of Assembly Bill 1539 to allow the compassionate release of sick and dying prisoners in California. The Bill passed both the Assembly and the Senate and has recently been signed by the Governor. Ms. Cannon's extensive litigation experience has helped her immensely in providing family court litigation services.
