Matthew de Lira

Matt has been leading the charge in some of Phillip & Pelly’s greatest successes, including a $24.9 million bench award/judgement, and firm record settlements of $3.4 million, $2 million, and $1.5 million. For the year 2021, according to TopVerdict, Matt’s $24.9 million judgment was the highest bench award in California and the 7 th highest bench award in the United States. Since 2021, Matt has been recognized as a Super Lawyer Rising Star, a designation that only 2.5% of the California lawyers have received. Matt is a lifetime member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, where membership is limited to attorneys who have obtain result over $2 million. Before representing the injured, Matt worked for a large insurance company defending against victim claims. His experience as a defense counsel gives him an insightful advantage as a victim’s advocate. Matt is a creative and resourceful litigator, often handling the firm’s most difficult and challenging cases, and bringing them to fruition. Taking cases other law firms turned away, Matt brings a novel perspective and presentation to each case, giving justice to those who would otherwise be without it. For Matt’s work in a singular case, he received a Commendation from the City of Lancaster, who recognized Matt’s “outstanding legal prowess” where he “exemplified the skill of a true litigator” in achieving a “remedy noteworthy of recognition” for clients against a national fast-food chain. Matt has also served as a volunteer prosecutor for the City of Anaheim and still serves as a Special Master for the State Bar of California. Matt graduated from UCLA School of Law, and also obtained from UCLA his master’s degree and bachelor’s degree. Matt is a born and raised San Diego native. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife, young children, and extended family.
