Robert E. Pugh

Growing up on my grandfather's farm I learned the value of hard work, loyalty, and the need to put others before yourself in order to achieve goals bigger than you can achieve on your own. Those lessons have always stuck with me and were very important when deciding to start this law firm with C. Matthew Miller. After graduating high school from Dickson County Senior High School in Dickson, Tennessee, I attended college at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee. Before graduating with a degree in history I held several offices in several organizations on campus in addition to being selected for membership in several honor societies including Mortar Board, Order of Omega, Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Mu Gamma, and Phi Alpha Theta. I attended law school at Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale, Illinois. While in law school at SIU I was on the staff of the Journal of Legal Medicine as well as serving as Production Editor for the SIU Law Journal. Involvement in the legal honor society Phi Delta Phi as well as the International Law Society were also important to me during my time at SIU. My time in law school also included employment as a Student Attorney at the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office in Evansville, Indiana where I helped prosecute traffic and misdemeanor offenses under the supervision of a licensed attorney. After graduating from law school and passing the Illinois Bar Examination I was employed as an Assistant State's Attorney in the Office of the Peoria County State's Attorney. My time with the Peoria County State's Attorney included assignments in the Traffic and DUI courts, Domestic Violence court, as well as the felony courts. Appearing in the courtroom virtually every day and frequently handling jury trials, bench trials, and motion hearings provided an excellent experience and training to the various aspects of criminal law. Fellow former prosecutor C. Matthew Miller and I established our law firm in April of 2008 after the extensive experience we received in the Office of the Peoria County State's Attorney. In 2013 I was selected by the publication Super Lawyers as a Super Lawyer Rising Star in the area of Criminal Defense. I was one of the few attorneys outside of the Chicago area that was selected for this honor with less than 2.5 percent of all attorneys in Illinois eligible for selection. Our firm represents clients exclusively in the areas of criminal defense, DUI defense, traffic violation defense, and record expungement. We are proud that Miller & Pugh Law Offices, P.C., is one of the only multi-attorney law firms in the state of Illinois that exclusively handles matters of criminal defense and related issues.
