About Steven Horak
Fighting for Employees, Grounded in Chicago My journey began in Chicago, where I was born and raised until I left for the University of Wisconsin in 1982. I was raised in Skokie and went to Niles East and graduated from Niles North. I earned a B.S. in Economics in 1986 and an M.S. in Industrial Relations in 1988 from the U of Wisconsin. These gave me a crucial understanding of the dynamics between labor and management and how companies repress workers rights. My journey to fighting the man started in High School where I had wonderful teacher BB Smith who taught about Civil Rights. I marched against the Nazi’s in Evanston in 1981 and continued to stand up for people since that time. After obtaining my J.D. from Loyola University School of Law, I initially considered becoming a sports agent, but soon realized my true calling was in the courtroom, directly helping people. A Foundation of Trial Experience After relocating to Kansas City in 1991, I spent over two decades building a trial-focused practice. I’ve handled thousands of trials, with roughly half of my work dedicated to Employment and Civil Rights law. From suing institutions where the KKK held influence to suing some of the largest companies in the world, I learned that from the inception of the case always prepare as if the case is going to trial This approach led to numerous major victories, including the successful jury verdict in Stevens v. Water District One of Johnson County (561 F. Supp. 2d 1224 | D. Kan. 2008) as well as hundreds of other judgments and settlements. Return to Chicago & Mission Moving back to Chicago in 2015, I thought I was slowing down, but the demand for dedicated employee representation pulled me back into practice. I had numerous successful cases since my coming back here in both Denver and the Chicago area. Recently I have partnered with Ed Glicken, a friend I’ve known for almost 50 years, and together, we are committed to providing a powerful offence against the unfair treatment of employees. We strive for excellence but try to be real people. We know that what we do effects people’s lives and that you need us to fight for you. Our goal is to have people treated fairly by everyone. Everyone should have a seat at the table and we all should show others dignity. If you want to abuse someone because they are different that is not okay with us. Despite becoming exceptionally busy, we are dedicated to providing the personalized attention every client needs. Family & Favorites When not working, my family is the utmost importance—especially my young granddaughter—along with my dog, Little T. I am a dedicated Chicago sports fan: Go Bears, White Sox, Cubs, and Bulls! The best part of my life is sharing it with my wife as we grow old together. So you are aware I am Jewish and don’t work on Jewish Holidays or Saturdays due to my Sabbath. I believe all of us are better with G-d in our lives.
