Nanine McCool

Born and raised in New Orleans, I joined the U.S. Coast Guard when I was 18 and served on active duty for 4.5 years before leaving to go to college at University of New Orleans. I remained in the Reserves and was activated for Desert Storm in 1990 which temporarily interrupted my college education. I graduated from UNO in 1992 and after working for few years, applied for and was accepted to law school at LSU. I graduated in 2000, took the bar exam and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in October of the same year. I immediately went into practice with a high profile trial attorney who practiced in jurisdictions throughout the country handling high-conflict custody cases involving allegations of child abuse. I became a lawyer because I believe in justice; that the rule of law is what distinguishes this country from all others and makes it a beacon for the world, and because I wanted to help people. I don't believe in catering to judges and believe that our legal system is suffering because it lacks accountability and has become overrun with people who care only about their personal power and not about advocacy. I consider myself a child advocate and all my family law cases are handled with an emphasis on minimizing trauma to minor children. I encourage my clients to avoid conflict if they can, but if necessary, I also advise them to dig in and fight. I enjoy doing estate planning for my clients and handling adoptions.
