About Richard G. Mack Jr.
Richard G. Mack, Jr. received a dual Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in Economics and Political Science, and a law degree from Wayne State University Law School. In law school, he founded the school's second scholarly law journal, The Journal of Law in Society. As an attorney, Richard has represented unions in litigation, grievance arbitration and negotiation surrounding multiple aspects of public and private sector labor law. In the city of Detroit bankruptcy, he served as the chief lawyer for a coalition of nearly thirty City of Detroit unions, as well as co-counsel for the AFSCME union. During the bankruptcy, Richard helped negotiate a template union contract, which offered City employees critical employment stability and some compensation increases. As an employment and civil rights litigator, he has secured millions of dollars for his clients. He became a member (partner) of the Miller Cohen law firm in 2011, and has been named a Michigan “Super Lawyer” for each year since then. His noteworthy victories include: more than one million dollars for government employees who were illegally “furloughed”, awards for retirees on fixed incomes who faced illegal reductions in compensation and health care, and many more. After suing Wayne County under the First Amendment and Michigan’s Whistleblower statute for firing an employee who complained about pollution in a Michigan river, Richard not only attained a substantial financial payout for the client, but a state-led investigation and other measures brought about an improvement in the pollution problem. Richard currently serves on the Detroit Charter Revision Commission. He often lectures for Metropolitan-Detroit AFL-CIO where his firm serves as its General Counsel. He is a lecturer for the Wayne State University Labor Studies Center, and lectures for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, and various unions and organizations. He currently serves as an executive board member of the 14th District Democratic Party Committee, and is also a Director on the Executive Board of the Detroit Branch NAACP. Richard is an active member of Perfecting Church and the proud father of his son, Jeremiah. Awards and Honors Super Lawyers® Selectees Richard G.
