Kate Loewe

Kate joined the Law Office of Ryan J. Villa in 2017. Her practice focuses primarily on civil rights law. Kate is currently one of class counsel in Duran v. Grisham, 77-cv-721, a long-running civil rights class action about conditions of confinement in the New Mexico Corrections Department. In 2019, Kate helped successfully negotiate a settlement to remedy overcrowding in New Mexico prisons. She also is part of a team of lawyers representing individuals with disabilities who are incarcerated at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC). Kate has been working on civil rights cases aimed at making systemic change since she was in law school. She also enjoys representing individuals in criminal and civil rights cases in metropolitan, district court, and at the appellate level. While Kate enjoys litigating, the best part of her job is talking with clients and their families to really understand the issues that they are facing and ensure that their concerns are heard. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Kate worked at the Santa Fe Rape Crisis Center and taught pottery classes to kids. In her free time, Kate enjoys running, cooking, gardening, and going on bike rides with her family.
