Derrick Hogan Esq.

In his role as Client Relations Attorney, Derrick oversees the operations of the Client Relations Department and provides legal assistance to potential new clients. Derrick assists potential new clients with any preliminary legal inquiries they may have and provides them with the appropriate guidance. He also works to ensure the firm is providing superior legal representation and customer service to its clients. Previously, Derrick handled cases for the firm’s Butterbaugh division, which works to restore improperly charged leave for service members. He also worked to help veterans receive monetary compensation resulting from unfair employment practices committed against them. In addition to participating in hearings and engaging in settlement negotiations before the Merit Systems Protection Board, Derrick drafted briefs submitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. In addition to handling cases for the Butterbaugh division, Derrick also handled real estate matters as well as low-level criminal and traffic violations. Derrick has also been featured by the Times Union as an “Up and Comer” in June 2009. Derrick originally joined the firm as a law clerk in January 2009. Prior to joining Tully Rinckey, Derrick served as an intern for the Schenectady County Attorney’s Office, where his work was focused on Family Court cases. He was also a legal aide in the Litigation Bureau of the New York State Attorney General’s Office. In this position, he dealt with lawsuits filed against the State by prisoners. He also handled cases concerning retaliation and discrimination in the workplace. Derrick is a native of Rome, NY and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in history. He then returned to New York to attend Albany Law School. Derrick now holds his juris doctorate and has been admitted to the New York State Bar. An avid sports fan, Derrick remains loyal to his alma mater and strongly supports Virginia Tech football and basketball. He also enjoys golfing.
