Louis G. Adolfsen

Lou started his career practicing tax law at a firm that specialized in the representation in tax matters of non-resident aliens in foreign corporations. The clients included the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath and Eric Clapton. After two years in tax, he accepted a clerkship with Lawrence H. Cooke, who became Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals. He then worked in a Wall Street firm handling commercial and bond litigation, and representing the TV Network ABC. He then found our firm at the beginning of the explosion of mass tort litigation starting with Love Canal, the most famous pollution site in America. Along the way, Lou developed an expertise in insurance coverage litigation, including construction litigation, directors and officers liability and errors and omissions liability. He also began to specialize in personal injury defense of construction accidents, auto accidents and nursing home cases. Throughout this time, Lou always maintained a commercial litigation practice and handled disputes for foreign businesses specializing in manufacturers who had disputes with their distributors. Most recently, he has developed an expertise in the anti-terrorism act and the alien tort statute. He also has developed an expertise in RICO and particularly with regard to extraterritoriality which is an issue in much of federal litigation involving international transactions. He also handles criminal defense of individuals charged with violations of U.S. law. In his spare time, Lou runs and enjoys outdoor sports with his family.
