About Marc A. Tenenbaum

Marc A. Tenenbaum became Of Counsel to Virginia & Ambinder, LLP in May 2007 and works at our Lower Manhattan office. Marc has extensive experience in ERISA litigation. He has handled cases concerning fiduciary responsibility, withdrawal liability, benefit entitlement, collection of delinquent employer contributions, and a range of other issues that frequently arise under Titles I and IV of ERISA. In addition, he is accomplished in commercial litigation, appellate practice, and bankruptcy law. He has been the co-author of two published articles on the relationship between ERISA and the Bankruptcy Code and a rewrite editor of the Employee Benefits Law treatise published by the Bureau of National Affairs. Marc served for seven years in the Office of the General Counsel of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) – the federal agency responsible for administering Title IV of ERISA. He was the senior staff attorney on PBGC’s elite bankruptcy litigation team and was involved in some of the country’s largest bankruptcy cases. In addition, he wrote numerous appellate briefs and was involved in high-profile litigation before the United States Supreme Court. He entered the private practice of law in 1997, when he became associated with the Washington, D.C. firm now known as Arent Fox LLP. At Arent Fox, he continued to focus on federal litigation, and also provided advice to clients on pension and bankruptcy law. In 1999, Marc moved to the Washington, D.C. firm of Slevin & Hart, P.C., where he represented numerous multiemployer plans. He served as lead litigation counsel in federal court; represented plaintiffs and defendants in class actions; provided advice to plan sponsors, fiduciaries, participants, and labor unions regarding employee benefits issues; represented clients before federal agencies including PBGC, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Department of Labor; and represented employee benefit plans and labor unions in corporate bankruptcy cases. Marc graduated from the University of Michigan in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. In 1989, he received his law degree from The Ohio State University, where he served as a senior member of the Board of Editors of the Ohio State Law Journal. Marc is a member of the New York, and District of Columbia bars, and is admitted to practice before numerous federal courts.
