Donald P. Screen

Donald P. Screen's experience includes partnership and service as a senior litigator at major Cleveland law firms and as a federal law clerk to United States District Judge Ann Aldrich. Screen has developed a strong record in both business and tort litigation, and has represented dozens of policyholders and insurers in complex coverage litigation. Screen has fought both for and against major banks, manufacturers, retailers, and service providers. His cases, both individual and class action, have involved civil rights, contract disputes (UCC and other), consumer rights, antitrust and intellectual-property matters, real estate, ERISA and employment-discrimination-and-retaliation disputes, and environmental compliance. Screen's recent successes include winning an injunction and obtaining a favorable settlement against a major newspaper over its abandonment of healthcare benefits for retirees; a victory in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of a commercial policyholder; a unanimous defense verdict, obtained after a five-day jury trial, in a seven-figure insurance-fraud lawsuit; numerous other motion, trial, and appellate victories; management of an extensive docket of insurance and tort cases for numerous corporate clients, including a big-three automobile manufacturer; and assisting in designing and implementing a commercial general-liability insurance program for the automobile manufacturer. Screen has also been active in the firm's civil-rights, employment, and First Amendment practices. Screen is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. Before embarking on his legal career, Screen earned his Ph.D. in philosophy, and served as an assistant professor, at the University of Virginia. He has written and lectured on a wide variety of subjects in both law and philosophy.
