Jason Short

Jason Short is a seasoned Oregon trial attorney who represents clients in criminal defense and complex legal matters statewide. Before founding Short Law Group, P.C., he served nearly eight years as a Deputy District Attorney, where he tried more than 160 cases before juries and judges and handled over 6,000 matters ranging from DUII and misdemeanor charges to serious felony and Measure 11 prosecutions. He also interned with the United States Attorney’s Office, gaining federal courtroom experience. His background as a former prosecutor—and his work training law enforcement on search and seizure law—gives him strategic insight into how cases are investigated, charged, and tried. Drawing on that extensive courtroom experience, Jason provides aggressive, results-driven criminal defense representation, including DUI defense, felony defense, and gun rights restoration. He has even represented fellow attorneys facing criminal charges, reflecting the trust placed in his advocacy skills. Recognized for his trial ability and professional reputation, Jason was selected in 2014, 2015, and 2016 to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 Criminal Defense Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only distinction honoring leading trial attorneys nationwide. As a certified pistol instructor and member of the National Rifle Association, he is particularly knowledgeable in firearm law and gun rights restoration cases. Born in Washington and raised in Salem, Jason returned to Oregon after college to earn his law degree from Willamette University College of Law. He is married with four children and is active in his community. Outside the courtroom, he enjoys golf, fishing, racquetball, hiking, camping, and is proud to be an Eagle Scout—values that reflect the discipline, integrity, and dedication he brings to every client’s case.
