Alvin J. Luschas Esquire

Alvin J. Luschas, Esq., of Mahanoy City and Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, joined the law offices of Derr & Pursel in 1978. He graduated (cum laude) from the University of Scranton in 1972 and received his Juris Doctor degree from St. Louis University School of Law in 1975. That year he was admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and became a member of the Columbia-Montour Bar Association. Shortly thereafter he was also admitted to practice law before the United States Middle District Court (Pennsylvania) as well as the United States Claims Court. Attorney Luschas was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army in 1972 and was a member of the US Army Reserve from 1972-1982. He attained the rank of Captain and served as a company commander with specialized training in chemical, nuclear, and biological warfare. Attorney Luschas served as the solicitor of Columbia County from 1979-1991. In 1989 he received statewide recognition as the Commonwealth’s Outstanding County Solicitor by the Pennsylvania State Association of County commissioners. Attorney Luschas became general counsel for the Columbia Montour Area Agency on Aging serving in that capacity from 1991 to the present. He is currently general counsel for First Columbia Bank & Trust Co., the Hemlock Municipal Sewer Cooperative, the Mifflin Township Board of Township Supervisors, the Central Columbia School District, the Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech School, and the Bloomsburg Area Municipal Authority. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of First Columbia Bank & Trust Co. and is a member of the Trust and Technology Committees of that Board. He is the past President of the Board of Directors of the Bloomsburg Area YMCA and held leadership roles in the fund-raising for and construction of the Bloomsburg Area YMCA in 1995. He has served as President of the pastoral council of St. Columba Church and has served as a member of the St. Columba Church school board. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors of Downtown Bloomsburg, Inc., and the Board of Directors of the Columbia Montour Visitors Bureau. Attorney Luschas is a Real Estate Title Insurance Agent and is certified to practice before the United States Veterans’ Administration. He is a current member of Elder Counsel, the Pennsylvania Elder Law Association, National Association of Elder Law Attorneys, Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association, and the Pennsylvania Association of Township Supervisors. His areas of concentration are Elder Law, Trusts & Estates, Business Law, Municipal Law, and Real Estate Transactions. He resides with his wife of forty-four years, Elaine Luschas, in the Berwick, Pennsylvania Area.
