His father, James David Voss, started out as a roughneck on derricks in West Texas and after 15 years in the oil patch was promoted to operator for OTIS Engineering. The opportunity - his family was transferred to Saudi Arabia. Bill Voss now looks at the move as something he wouldn't trade for a buffalo nickel. "The travel was a tremendous opportunity to get to know so many types of great people and learn the ways of many cultures. It truly helped me understand viewpoints from so many different angles." But Mr. Voss' story goes much further back than the move to a foreign land. His grandmother, on his mother's side, Billie Prue "Crockett" Parnell, is a direct descendant of Davy Crockett - yes, "the Davy Crockett". Records indicate the Wilburn (Billie Prue's other side) and the Crockett families were one of the first 12 families granted permission by Mexico to farm Texas. The Wilburn and Crockett families settled in what is now known as Fort Worth.
