Chris Stewart

Chris Stewart has secured successful outcomes for clients for more than 30 years in federal and state trial courts, appellate courts, arbitrations, administrative proceedings, and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. His litigation record reflects a strong command of complex commercial disputes, high-stakes business conflicts, intellectual property enforcement, and estate and probate litigation. Chris represents clients nationwide in trademark registration, protection, and enforcement. He has registered more than 800 U.S. trademarks and regularly represents plaintiffs and defendants in trademark infringement disputes. His work includes Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings, domain-name arbitrations, and brand protection matters involving online infringement. Chris also maintains an active copyright practice, guiding clients through copyright registration and representing them in infringement disputes. His work frequently includes DMCA enforcement and social-media takedowns to protect copyrighted content and brand assets online. In addition, Chris advises and represents clients in trade secret and restrictive covenant litigation, including disputes involving non-compete agreements and the misuse of proprietary information. He has represented both employers and employees in these matters. Beyond intellectual property, Chris handles complex commercial litigation and business disputes across a wide range of industries. He regularly represents clients in federal and Texas state courts and has handled hundreds of cases. Representative clients include construction companies, engineering firms, trustees and beneficiaries, nonprofit organizations and churches, trucking companies, oil and gas businesses, commercial landlords, victims of personal injury, and insurance companies. Chris has achieved favorable outcomes in a wide range of litigation matters. Representative results include: Representing a cattle buyer in a fraud action involving co-mingled cattle and preserving the client’s favorable judgment against multiple post-trial challenges, followed by a successful appeal affirming the judgment. Ladd v. Harmon, 2025 Tex. App. LEXIS 6508 (Tex. App.—Amarillo 2025). Obtaining settlements in 2025 on behalf of a trucking company against two first-party insurers following a rollover accident in California, along with a separate settlement against the company’s insurance agent. Obtaining a full appraisal-value commissioner’s verdict in a 2025 eminent domain trial on behalf of a charitable foundation. Successfully representing a luxury watch manufacturer in a counterfeiting action resulting in a default judgment awarding $14 million in statutory damages, plus attorneys’ fees and costs. Rolex Watch USA, Inc. v. Trujillo, 2023 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 238147 (N.D. Tex. 2023). Representing a restaurant in a copyright infringement dispute and prevailing on a motion to dismiss. Tayama v. RIOM Corp., 2012 WL 556007 (N.D. Tex. 2012). Representing the family of a deceased professional wrestler in claims involving the unauthorized commercial use of the wrestler’s image and likeness. Achieving a settlement in a trade-secret dispute involving proprietary engineering drawings while successfully defeating a petition for writ of mandamus during the litigation. In re N&T Specialty Welding & Mfg., 2008 WL 5050301 (Tex. App.—Amarillo 2008). Securing reversal and remand of an adverse jury verdict for an oil and gas company in a livestock-damage case after the appellate court found the evidence factually insufficient to support the verdict. Duke Energy Field Services, L.P. v. Meyer, 190 S.W.3d 149 (Tex. App.—Amarillo 2005). Obtaining summary judgment for an eye-care company defending against trademark infringement and unfair competition claims under the Lanham Act. Spectrum Vision Systems, Inc. v. Spectera, Inc., 35 F. Supp. 2d 797 (D. Kan. 1998). Chris also negotiates contracts and licensing agreements. Representative clients include software companies, equipment manufacturers, restaurants, nonprofit organizations, authors, inventors, and online retailers. Chris has extensive experience before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, having represented clients in more than 100 opposition and cancellation proceedings. His clients have included advertising agencies, equipment manufacturers, medical professionals, pet food companies, restaurants, banks, dentists, healthcare companies, candy manufacturers, law firms, grocery distributors, smoke and vape retailers, pharmacies, motorcycle accessory companies, ministries, and entertainment companies. Chris also regularly represents trademark owners in domain-name arbitrations under the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP). Since 2008, he has prevailed in numerous arbitrations on behalf of companies including a national real estate financing company targeted by phishing schemes, an international pet food company, a knife manufacturer, a retail pharmacy network, and a smoke and vape retailer. His work frequently involves stopping competitors and bad actors from using clients’ trademarks to divert business online. PERSONAL Outside of his legal practice, Chris operates a small side business selling vintage cards. His favorite card is a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron rookie card, a gift from his high school government teacher. Chris and his wife are members of Polk Street Methodist Church.
