James R. Tanner

James R. Tanner graduated from Washburn University Law School in 1974. He served, as a Captain, in the U.S. Army JAG Corps. He served as a civilian counsel for the U.S. Army, from 1983 until 1998. During his government service, James routinely represented his government client as a Labor Counselor, in employment law matters, including hearings and appeals to the Merit Systems Protection Board, hearings before EEOC administrative law judges, and arbitrations. He routinely reviewed proposed personnel adverse actions for supervision and for the agency Human Resource organization. In 1998, James established a private practice of law. His current office is located at 250 South Main in Tooele, Utah. He has provided legal services, almost exclusively, to employees or Plaintiffs in employment law matters since his retirement from the federal government in 1998. His law partner is his son, Richard J. Tanner. Richard's practice includes criminal defense and family law matters. James Tanner has served as President of the Utah Employment Lawyers for two separate terms. He is a trained mediator. He has taught employment law, law of supervision, and dispute resolution for the University of Phoenix undergraduate and graduate programs. Mr. Tanner currently serves as an Administrative Hearing Officer for both Tooele City and Tooele County, in addition to maintaining his private practice of law where he focuses on employment law matters.
