A native of Nelson County, Virginia; Anthony graduated from the Virginia Military Institute with a B.A. in History – With Distinction and earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence J.D. Cum Laude from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan where he served as an associate editor for the Law Review. Anthony began his legal career as an Associate Attorney at Eggleston & Thelen, P.C. in Lovingston, Virginia. He has since served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Amherst County and was twice elected as Commonwealth’s Attorney in Nelson County. In 2016, Anthony returned to private practice, specializing in the practice of criminal law. Anthony is best known for his work on the Alexis Murphy murder case. He is one of a very small number of prosecutors in Virginia to successfully prosecute a murder case in which the victim’s body had not been found. As Commonwealth’s Attorney, Anthony obtained a murder conviction after a jury found Randy Allen Taylor guilty of the murder of Alexis Murphy in Nelson County in 2014. Her remains were located and positively identified in 2021. Anthony works with clients who: Are charged with serious crimes such as homicide, robbery, or sexual assault. Are charged with non-violent crimes or traffic cases. Have a case in the Court of Appeals of Virginia or the Supreme Court of Virginia Are seeking resolutions of cases without contested trials such as cases where his clients could benefit from participation in Drug Court and the Therapeutic Docket, which emphasizes rehabilitation and treatment instead of incarceration. Qualify to have their criminal records expunged. Have been convicted of a felony and want to petition the courts to have their firearm rights restored.
