About Patrick F. Heinen
Pat joined Spinella Owings & Shaia in January 2003. Prior to Spinella, he worked as a corporate attorney, representing hospitals and other healthcare providers, with the former firm of Crews & Hancock, PLC. A large portion of his current practice is collecting underpayments from workers’ compensation insurers. Every year, Pat works with thousands of patients and insurance adjustors to negotiate payment for his clients. He has a small and specialized practice with a loyal client base. He and his staff are able to review bills, insurance remits, payments, etc. and determine any problem and the appropriate solution. In doing this every day, Pat and his team have developed the expertise to quickly resolve claims. In May 1997, Pat came to Richmond, his wife’s hometown, to pursue his law degree at the University of Richmond. He finished a semester early, cum laude. He was a member of the McNeil Law Society and Moot Court Board. Pat started his college career a few weeks before his official discharge from the Army and completed his Bachelor of Arts in English, cum laude, a quarter early in the spring of 1988. Before entering the University of Richmond for law school, Pat spent 10 years with West Publishing Company while in college as a janitor, then sales and eventually as an administrative editor for continuing education courses for CPAs. His work experience also includes a two-year enlistment in the U.S. Army and a few more years in the Army Reserve. Pat’s Team Pat’s team deals with everyone in a professional manner, operating with integrity and efficiency. Pat’s clients feel comfortable trusting and relying on his staff. They are known and respected by the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission, insurers, and others as honest advocates for their clients. They do not complicate matters when simple is possible.
