Habich is a Madison native and earned his undergraduate degree in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School. While pursuing his law degree, he worked with a local firm and later interned at the Wisconsin Court of Appeals in Madison.
