Thomas Paine I was born in Dekalb County, Georgia and was raised in Rockdale County, Georgia. I graduated from Heritage High School and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Industry Management from Georgia State University in 1999. While working full time as a Real Estate Title Examiner, I obtained my Juris Doctorate degree from John Marshall Law School. I was in the Leadership Rockdale Class of 2001 and was a previous Ambassador for the Rockdale County Chamber of Commerce. I was the Vice-President of the Rockdale County Bar Association in 2011 and 2012 and the President for 2013 through 2016. I am a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Rockdale County Bar Association and am admitted to practice in front of all Georgia Courts, including the Georgia Supreme Court and the Georgia Court of Appeals. I was proud to serve as the Chairperson for the Rockdale County Board of Ethics from 2015 through 2019 and served as the President on the Board for Unity Church East from 2014 through 2019. My primary focus in my practice of law is Family law, including Divorce, Child Support, Custody, Modification, and Legitimation. While I enjoy the give and take of the Court Room and feel strongly that litigation has its place, most cases can be settled without the added expense of a bench or jury trial. I feel mediation and negotiation should be the cornerstone of a successful law practice, with litigation being the last resort. I grew up and still remain a resident of Rockdale County, as did my wife, Bonny, who is the light of my life. We have a son, Russel who is growing up to be an amazing young man. Our family is rounded out with two great Pyrenees, Nanook and Hobbit and one cat (Kit Kat), all three of whom are rescue animals."
