Ryan E. Adams

Mr. Adams is a partner focusing his practice on commercial litigation, with particular experience in patent and intellectual property cases. He has handled litigation throughout the United States, in both federal and state courts, as well as in private arbitration. Mr. Adams has extensive experience handling preliminary injunctions, bench trials, jury trials and appellate proceedings. His cases have involved many different industries and technologies, including banking and financial services, computer hardware and software, electronics, securities, semiconductors and sporting goods. Mr. Adams is a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation group, and he has represented dozens of clients in high-stakes litigation involving trade secrets, non-disclosure agreements and restrictive covenants. Mr. Adams also has considerable experience in enforcing and protecting patents, trademarks and copyrights, as well as handling deceptive advertising cases under federal and state law. Case Highlights Wright v. East, 502 U.S. 279 (1993) A habeas corpus case where the Court raised the question of whether the de novo review standard for mixed questions of law and fact established in 1972 (the Smith v. Allen standard) should be overruled. Halsted v. Barry, 502 U.S. 267 (1994) The Court reversed a Fifth Circuit determination that the court did not have jurisdication over an appeal because the defendant's pro se brief could not serve as a timely notice of appeal.
