Ali Berkin Ph.D.

Ali Berkin, Ph.D. is a scientific advisor in the New York office of Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP. Dr. Berkin has applied his expertise to pharmaceutical litigations, support of opinion work, interference proceedings with the USPTO, and patent prosecution. Specifically, he has dealt with analytical analysis of compounds, synthetic chemical schemes, pharmaceutical formulations, polymorphism, claim drafting, and database searching for patentability and prior art references. Dr. Berkin completed his B.Sc. degree in Chemistry at the School of Co-Operative Education (Co-op) at Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. As a Co-op student, he was employed with leading chemical companies which included ICI Canada, ESSO Petroleum, ICI Explosives, and H.L. Blachford, where he performed research dealing with paper coating formulations, gasoline formulations, safety-airbag propellant formulations, and rubber formulations, respectively. Dr. Berkin completed the requirement for a Ph.D. degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Walter A. Szarek at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. His research included the synthesis and evaluation of monosaccharides in biological systems. Dr. Berkin joined the Laboratory of Developmental Molecular Immunity at the National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. For two years, Dr. Berkin synthesized potential vaccine candidates for Neisseria Meningitidis, an organism known to cause Meningitis. Dr. Berkin is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
