About Chris W. McCarty
Chris W. McCarty practices in the areas of employment law, education law, and general civil litigation. Though a great deal of Mr. McCarty's practice centers on litigation, he also possesses experience in drafting employee handbooks, drug/alcohol policies and various other legal documents. Mr. McCarty has tried and argued matters before courts throughout Tennessee. He has also advised and represented various school boards, including Sevier County, Bristol City and Bradley County. That experience parallels Mr. McCarty's representation of public and private entities before the Tennessee Human Rights Commission, the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). His familiarity with the law and aptitude as a writer have also led many legal journals to publish Mr. McCarty's articles, including the Tennessee Bar Journal, the Knoxville Bar Association Dicta, ALI-ABA The Practical Litigator and Inquiry & Analysis (a national e-journal published monthly by the Council of School Attorneys). Mr. McCarty frequently contributes Court Reports to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) website, with some of those Court Reports appearing in HR Magazine. Mr. McCarty is a member of the Knoxville Bar Association, Barristers (Young Lawyer Section), and the Tennessee Bar Association. In 2008, he served as the Vice Chair for Wills for Heroes in the TBA's Young Lawyers' Division (YLD) and is a member of KBA's Publications Committee. In 2009, Mr. McCarty was appointed to serve on the board for the American Bar Association's Young Lawyer's Division. And in 2009, Mr. McCarty received the President's Award for his service in the TBA Young Lawyer's Division. From 2010 through the present, Mr. McCarty was elected as East Tennessee's YLD representative to the TBA House of Delegates. Involvement with various bar associations coincides with Mr. McCarty's community participation. In 2007, he was invited to participate in Introduction Knoxville, a feeder organization for Leadership Knoxville. In 2010, Mr. McCarty was also invited to participate in Leadership Tomorrow Sevier, a feeder organization for Leadership Sevier. Mr. McCarty was recently chosen as board member of Nucleus Knoxville. This coincides with his 2010 nomination as a board member for the Cerebral Palsy Center of Knoxville. Mr. McCarty graduated with a History for Licensure degree from Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. Following college, Mr. McCarty spent two-years teaching eighth grade United States' history at Seymour Middle School in Seymour, Tennessee. At the University of Tennessee School of Law, Mr. McCarty twice participated in the school's annual Ray Jenkins Trial Competition, winning first place in his final year. He was also twice selected to the school's National Trial Team.
