Joelle M. Burton

Joelle M. Burton represents domestic and international insurers in evaluating coverage, liability and damages issues arising under professional liability policies, including directors and officers liability, errors and omissions liability, and fiduciary liability for various industries and professionals, including healthcare and managed care organizations, financial institutions, and agents and brokers. Joelle's practice focus includes consumer class actions, shareholder securities and derivative actions, government and regulatory investigations, and bankruptcy matters. Joelle also represents insurers in bad faith coverage litigation, and in commercial litigation matters. Prior to joining White and Williams, Joelle represented the interests of U.S. and London-based insurers in coverage litigation, and as coverage and monitoring counsel, in the areas of errors and omissions liability, and general liability, with a special emphasis on lawyers' liability, employment practices liability, and agent and broker liability claims. Joelle also is experienced in defense litigation in the areas of general, auto, product, employment, environmental and medical malpractice liability, including appellate practice in New York's Appellate Division, Second Department. While in law school, Joelle received the New York State Bar Association's Student Legal Ethics Award, and practiced as a Student Attorney in Pace Law's John Jay Legal Services Investor Rights Clinic, where she represented investors of modest means, successfully negotiating settlements for clients.
